The announcement of Kokumin-gata Receiver
In 09/1945, Radio industry, METI, The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications,
NHK, were gathered and discussed about post war radio.
In 12/1945, The specifications of standard receiver (preliminary version)
was appeared on the radio magazine.
It named “Kokumin-gata“ radio. “Kokumin” means “national”.
On the first standard, old-fashioned regenerative set (0-V-2) was deleted.
Heater voltage changed from 2.5V into 6.3V. Circuit was 4 tubes TRF (1-V-1)
only.
However, the supply of new tubes was limited.
The standard ended up with including old-fashioned circuit and tubes.
In 1946, First editions of the standard of Kokumin-gata receiver was announced from Communication Equipment Manufacturer’s Association
(CEMA)

Price is official price (28/2/1947)
No.1 was Transformer less set equal to Housoukyoku-gata type No.123 receiver.
No.3 was Transformer less set with dynamic speaker.
No.5 was old-fashioned Nami-Yon radio used 2.5V tubes.
No.6 was TRF set used 2.5V tubes.
Most popular set was No.2-A that was TRF used 6.3V tube and magnetic speaker.
No.4 was high grade TRF with dynamic speaker.
Some model used auto-transformer to reduce the size of transformer.
This type called “single” type.
The primary winding of transformer connected to chassis, the caution for electrical shock needed.
Amendment of the standard of Kokumin-gata receiver
In 1947 CEMA reexamined the standard. New standard was established as CES-12
“Regular class Kokumin-gata Receiver”.
At 06/1947, Regenerative No.5 receiver was prohibited by GHQ to avoid interference.
Old fashioned No.6 receiver was discontinued.
Irregular No.2-B and No.2-C were discontinued.
Kokumin-gata Receiver was arranged 5 types.
Alternate usage of tubes allowed (i.e. 6C6 instead of 6D6, Se rectifier instead of 12F).
The standard for regular class was issued first.
At 16/09/1947, CEMA authorized the standard of “Super Class” Kokumin-gata Receiver as upper class of TRF Kokumin-gata Receiver.
This standard established technical standard of Japanese super heterodyne radio.

Post war approved system by NHK
Approval system for radio and parts by NHK continued after the end of WWII.
The scope of approval was mainly Kokumin-gata receiver.
Kokumin-gata receiver was authorized as standard receiver by The Ministry of Posts
and Telecommunications.
Exemption of commodity tax for approved Kokumin-gata receiver was recognized.
METI gave high priority of assignment of materials to approved radio.
The approval needed to participate in the shipment test by CEMA .
Then many approved Kokumin-gata receiver put on the market .
Such privilege needed to approved by NHK was criticized.
After the dissolution of CEMA , Japanese Ministry, GHQ and radio industry
discussed.
The result was that the type examination for radio set by The Ministry
of Telecommunications started from 1948.
The approval for radio set was stopped after 1948.
The approval for parts continued until 1950.
Approval was only accepted in Tokyo until 1946.
By the deterioration of traffic and communication, approval was held in Osaka.
The approval number issued in Osaka started from 11611.
